Today, on the morning of my 34th birthday World Triathlon Corporation approached me with an email congratulating me on becoming a Gold IRONMAN All World Athlete! This means my race performances in 2013 earned me a place in the Top 1% in the world in my Age Group for IRONMAN Overall (IRONMAN & 70.3 results combined) as well as IRONMAN (only the full distance IRONMAN results).
Great!
While it's nice to get some recognition for the hard work I've done, I don't think this award really means that much unfortunately. The ranking system only awards IRONMAN-branded races and is heavily weighted by the number of races participated. Therefore the placing in the ranking doesn't necessarily tell the whole story of one's performance compared to others. Everything shiny and in gold is nice anyway! Thank you!
